- Carlos Gonzalez homered in four at-bats in a row between yesterday and today. Amazingly this is a first for any Rox player. Last time it was done was in 2006 when Pujols did it. It was the 22nd time a major league player has homered in four consecutive plate appearances and the 38th time for four straight official at-bats.
- The Astros have a better record than the Rockies. Astros had 55 hits, scored 23 runs, and get swept by Rox. By the way Rox only had 56 hits in the sweep but scored 40 runs!
- This is the Rox 4th four game series at home against Astros. They are 2-2-0. All time, against all teams they are 31-22-35 in four game series at home. Of course they are 0-6-2 on the road against Houston in 4 game series and 17-52-25 all time on the road in 4 game series
- Tulo goes on the DL. Rox historically haven't been very good without their All Star short stop. In 2007 and 2009 when Rox made playoffs, Tulo played in 155 and 151 games respectively. In the other years, when Rox not so good, he has played 101, 122, and 143 games.

Box Score Bytes - Game 49
- The Jamie Moyer experiment is over. Rox designated him for assignment yesterday. He is given 10 days for teams to make an offer otherwise Rox will release him. While it certainly was a nice story for Moyer and the Rox. it is a shame the Rox season up to this point was such that Moyer is almost the fall guy in all of this. Realistically he was never suppose to be our number 1 or 2 starter but because of our young staff and injuries Moyer was thrusted into a role which was unsuited to why the Rox signed him in the first place. I thank Moyer for his professionalism and his high sanitary socks. Good luck. Anyone want to take bets that he goes to a NL team and gets a victory against our Rox?
- Back to the game, Houston out-hit the Rox, 15-14, but lost by 8 runs.
- Since Coors Field opened in 1995, there have been 17 three-HR games there, 15 in Wrigley Field, 14 in Rangers Ballpark and in Cincinnati’s parks, and an average of 5 in all the other parks.
- CarGo has been on a tear going 10 for 16 with five home runs, seven RBIs and six runs scored in his past four games. He has 13 homers on the season.
- Cuddyer collected his second grand slam this season.
- All in all the offense seems to be clicking now if we could get some mound consistency Rox could make something happen. At 20-29, the Rox runs scored/runs allowed would suggest that they are really a 23-26 team. Perhaps Rox will have a luckier June!

Box Score Bytes - Game 47 and 48
- A rare planned double header. Astros first since 2006.
- Pacheco has made himself the Rox starting third baseman. With a 11 game hitting streak with his return to the majors and game winning RBI in Game 1 I imagine Tracy will be penciling him into the lineup fairly regularly. He is still a little raw in the field but hitting can make up for errors (?)
- Ancient history but these same two teams played one other doubleheader, a sweep by Colorado on Set. 14, 1993, at Mile High Stadium in Denver.
- Coors Field special with this score line (Astros score, Rox respond, Astros score some more, Rox keep at it):
- For whatever reason I still go back to triples and Coors. I have seen more triples hit in the gap between left and center this year then I can remember. Today there were two more in the first inning, hit almost in the same spot. I wonder if baseball would allow a 4th outfielder for Coors with a discontinuation of the humidor? Coors is only 6th in park factors when it comes to triples with Petco, Oakland, Target, Marlins, and Miller field yielding more triples per game
- After 400 minutes of baseball yesterday at Coors, Rox came away with two wins. First time that I have sat through 18 innings of baseball. Wasn't for the faint of heart. Really this year as felt like a time machine back to the Blake Street Bombers.
- Not for sure if this is meaningful but the average number of pitches thrown from our relievers this year is about 60 pitches.
- According to Baseball Reference's Batting Game Score, Dex had the second best score of the day with his 4 AB, 3 runs, 4 hits (HR, 3B), 3 RBI day. Of course 3 of the Top 10 were a COL/HOU game and 2 of the Bottom 10 were also a COL/HOU game, go figure.
- Props to Dex. He has my wrath a disproportional amount of my time but he is so crucial to this team's ability to score runs. Fowler, who went 7 for 9 and reached base nine times, in his return to the top of the batting order, allowed Rox to score 16 times in two games.
- And finally a confusing play in the fourth when Colvin seemingly hit into a double play only to be called safe. Colvin was then given first base due to catcher's interference. Second time this year that has happened. Very unusual...

Box Score Bytes - Game 3
- @TroyRenck had a tweet that says Tracy didn't put Nelson for defense at 3B because he would lose Hernandez as a pinch hitter therefore Tracy must have been thinking that the game might get tied (at the time Rox held a slight 2-1 lead)....I'm sorry but if you have the lead, you do everything you can to maintain that lead including putting in Helton at first and Nelson at 3B for defensive purposes. Yeah it's early in the year but you can't be giving up wins. This one goes towards Tracy (he is 0-1), Rox are 1-1...
- Not to be alarmist but after a 3 game series in a ballpark that is offensive the Rox leave with a slugging percentage of 0.356 with 5 doubles, triple, and 3 home runs with only 10 runs (on pace for 540 runs ;)
- Who needs Dex? Colvin had a nice over the shoulder grab in Center today.
- Nice start by Nicasio. 7 innings pitched with a pitch count of only 82. This game should have gone in the win column, thanks Tracy.
- Brothers was obviously rattled by the error...too bad but will need to learn that is baseball especially if he becomes a closer.
- Giambi tied Mark McGwire for 38th with 1,317 walks with 3 today...really have to wonder way everyone got a start today with Pacheco at 3B, Herrera at 2B, Giambi at 1B, Rosario at C, and Colvin at CF. Win series Mr Tracy...
- Rox are now 5-9 in 3-game series in Houston.

Box Score Bytes - Game 1
- Rox are 7-6 away from home on opening days. Improve to 11 - 9 overall.
- Helton started his 15th consecutive Opening Day at first base for the Rox. Also extended his Opening Day hit streak to 13 games.
- Could EY Jr be Rox designated (pinch) runner? It's been tried once before back in 1974 when Oakland's owner Charlie Finley tapped Herb Washington to be his designated runner! Of course Rox are helped out having 3 catchers on the roster and the ability to pinch run if a catcher gets on late in a game...
- If Rox didn't win it would have been pretty pathetic as the Astros committed 4 errors. For my taste the game was a little too close for comfort.
- Guthrie lived up to expectations by going a strong 7 although the back to back homers was his M.O. in Baltimore. But he outlasted his opponent which over the last three years the Rox have gone 170-57 (71-21 on the road!).
- Rox new acquisitions went 5 for 13 (Scutaro, Cuddyer, and Hernandez). The old team collected only 3 hits...
- Rox went 3-9 with Runner's in scoring position.

2) Even Rox pitchers got into it with Millwood going deep again. 4th pitcher with 2 HRs this season in majors. 5th Rox pitcher to have a multiple HR season...still a ways to go to reach Hampton's 2001 record of 7!

Box Score Bytes - Game 158
1) Game 158 for the Rox was a baseball milestone. According to Baseball-Reference.com this was the 200,000 game played in MLB history...not exactly a milestone worthy matchup but that is baseball...

Box Score Bytes - Game 157
1) Read someone's tweet last night wondering if the team was pressing or perhaps our prized prospects aren't ready for the big lights...frightening thing is that if they aren't ready, six month off season isn't going to get them there...we could be in real trouble next year
2) Why is Iannetta ripped? The guy has had a decent year. Really as a catcher you need to call a good game, hold opponents run game in check, and be serviceable at the plate. No one expects him to be the second coming of Piazza...
3) Not good when your opponent gets a hit in their first 6 at bats (first time ever in 49 year history of the Astros)
4) In other news D-Backs win the division behind batting coach Don Baylor. Good on him, it's too bad what Rox did to him last year running him out of town. I get the strong suspicion based on Lansford crappy performance that perhaps its not the coaches but the players...

Box Score Bytes - Game 156
1) Corrigan made a comment tonight indicating he thought our hurlers were allowing their counterparts to reach base a lot this year (includes hits, walks, HBP, and reach on error). This is as good as any other reason for Rox failures this year but sadly numbers don't seem to be that conclusive although the percentage of those pitchers reaching base and scoring is certainly up this year. Thing is everyone is scoring on the Rox!

Box Score Bytes - Game 130
1) Back and forth battle this evening...some questionable plate umpiring, questionable out/safe calls, some good/bad defense, and some great old time Coors Field home runs. A little bit of everything!
2) First off we had the Waxahachie Swap which I totally missed and apparently the Denver Post can't annotate very well. Wright pitched 1/3 inning not 2/3 has shown but I'm guessing the newspaper editor (?) or program they use won't allow a same name pitcher to pitch twice in one inning with a pitcher in between?

3) On the night our ticket stubs have Ubaldo pitching, his heir apparent (at least trade wise) made his debut. No decision and he fought valiantly but his ERA after 3 innings was 9.00 (just saying)
4) Rox are third in the league with 382 extra base hits
5) Belisle was 7-4 going into the game then picked up his 8th win. He is second on the team behind Chacin's 10
6) Brothers got his first save
7) Smith in Left Field and CarGo in Right? Paid off in the seventh with a fabulous diving catch to probably save the game for Rox
8) Talking CarGo has of last night he had 22 HR and 22 doubles
9) Old man Helton has 120 hits...gee only 2-3 years of that and he might sniff 3,000 hits
10) Smith hit a long home run...478 feet...hitting the facade of right field upper deck over the bullpen...longest one I have ever seen in Coors...monster!

Box Score Bytes - Game 129
1) Rox move back to playing 0.500 at home...last 4 years they have average 0.600 clip at home
2) While it is a nice thought that the Rox have turned a corner (winners in 3 straight games!) they have a long way to go in their last 33 games. 20-13 to finish 0.500 and 26-7 to get to my preseason expectation. Maybe they will bookend their season with a great April and September!
3) As fate would have it Barmes, longtime Rox, came up with two outs in the ninth down by 4. While the bases weren't juiced it would have been dramatic if it had been...fortunately for Rox he struck out.
